Police have arrested a Northlander who allegedly fired shots into the air out a car window during a police pursuit.

The 27-year-old again allegedly failed to stop for police about 1pm on Saturday while heading south in Ahipara.

The first alleged incident happened on forestry roads near Kaitaia on July 25.

On Saturday, the car the man was driving was spiked at Herekino but police say he continued some distance through a forestry block before he was arrested.

He is likely to face charges of possession of a firearm, resisting arrest with a firearm, burglary and failing to stop.

A 32-year-old female passenger was also arrested for failing to appear in court on previous charges.

On July 25, police attempted to stop the vehicle the man was driving in Awanui.

He allegedly failed to stop and led police on a pursuit through forestry roads. The chase was abandoned after two shots were allegedly fired into the air from the vehicle being chased.

The vehicle was located on Ninety Mile Beach and the police Armed Offenders Squad was deployed but the driver could not be found.

At the time, Kaitaia police sought public help to locate a 2003 silver-coloured Ford Falcon, registration BHR758, and said they were following strong lines of inquiry.
