Active Attitude show form at aerobic champs

Active Attitude had a strong home showing at the Northland Aerobics Championships, held at Kensington Stadium.

This event was sanctioned by Gymnastics New Zealand and is a qualifier for the Gymnastics New Zealand Aerobics Nationals.

There were 88 competitors attending from throughout the North Island, 37 of which are from Active Attitude.

Some of New Zealand's top Aerobics athletes attended. The youngest competitor is 8 years old, with the oldest in their 20s.

For many of the girls it was the first time that a lot of their family members were able to watch them perform.

For the past three years that Active Attitude has been competing in aerobics there has never been an inter-club competition in the region, which has meant a lot of travelling to competitions and often the mothers take their daughters down to the events.

The girls were excited to be able to finally have a home crowd and have their dads and other family members and friends attend.

Coach Ashleigh McCaw had nothing but praise for her charges after a successful day.

"I was so impressed by the 37 athletes we had performing on Saturday," she said.

"The majority of the girls hit well above the Nationals qualifying mark, which will mean that they will be eligible to attend the New Zealand Gymnastics National Aerobics Championships in Auckland in October.

"It was also the very first time 10 of our athletes had done an aerobics competition and we are super proud of the work they have put in to getting themselves ready for the competition.

"Active Attitude are really grateful for the support that the New Zealand Aerobics community has given them with running their first competition and also the support of families within our club that provided assistance with the event and the local businesses that provided sponsorship."
