After the pinot celebration, those who relish riesling can get up close and personal with their favourite variety at an event titled In Praise of Riesling, which starts at Pegasus Bay Winery in Canterbury's Waipara region with a day-long workshop on January 31.
The first part of the day will be concentrated on understanding the riesling grape in its best expression from other parts of the world.
Then it's time for the riesling challenge, where participants will taste wine all made from the same Waipara Valley vineyard but crafted by different winemakers from around New Zealand.
A showcase of Waipara Valley riesling will be held where participating wineries are invited to put their "best riesling foot forward".
They may include back vintages, rare wines or even experimental batches.
Join local winemakers, some of Australasia's most influential wine writers, riesling experts and fans for a wonderful day dedicated to this classic grape variety.
