Mangawhai Walking Weekend

The 13th Annual Mangawhai Walking Weekend will see Dunns Bush Track; the Troubadour Trail stomped along. There are 18 different walks to choose from on the Saturday and 17 choices of walks on the Sunday. Walk the Brynderwyn Hills with intense bush, visit wineries and avocado orchards, observe magnificent views, climb the sand hill, learn of the endangered fairy terns and their habitat and the endangered Te Arai beach with the dotterels, go by boat to see the work of the Harbour Restoration Group, take the chance to abseil in the Waipu Caves, experience some history of the area and amble around Jane Mander country.

The 2012 running of the International Rally of Whangarei marks the sixth time the prestigious international rally has used the northern city as its base. However, it's the first time the highly-regarded motorsport event has been the opening round of both the Asia Pacific and New Zealand Rally Championships. Fans can enjoy numerous free rally-related activities in downtown Whangarei, like the official driver autograph signing session and entertaining ceremonial start in Cameron Street Mall or check out the high speed technical expertise of the teams working in the service park alongside the Quayside Town Basin. Just a few kilometres from central Whangarei, at Pohe Island, event organisers run a very popular super special stage alongside the Lions Club family fun day on Saturday.
