Summer is shaping up to be a season for showing off good ankles.
Ankle-baring pants are as bountiful in Kiwi designers' collections as the usual summer dresses this year.
Just look to World, Ruby and Karen Walker for styles that will have you thinking of pants as a summer wardrobe essential, rather
than winter.
And while it might seem like only good news for those with shapely ankles, at least this trend takes the pressure off getting toned thighs and shapely calves.
It's also good news for the less-girly girls amongst us who for the last few summers have faced racks and racks of full skirts and colourful dresses.
But before you worry about looking like you have dressed for winter when the mercury hits the 20s, keep in mind the trend is towards pants that are hemmed above the ankle - 7/8 ths, if you will.
The look is chic, rather than covered up.
Just think Audrey Hepburn.
Pleat-front pants that are cuffed or rolled like those from Juliette Hogan and Kate Sylvester, cropped cargos from RJC and harem pants like those at Country Road and Moochi are all part of it.
White is always crisp in summer, but beige makes for a smart office look when worn with a fitted shirt or summer blazer.
On hot, casual days, pair your 7/8 ths with floaty summer tops.
Pants at this length do have a tendency to make you look shorter, so avoid wearing with jandals and looking like you've simply rolled up the bottoms to go wading.
Instead, go for smart loafers or use the shorter style to show off incredible heels.
