A week or so ago the Lorkins moved into a domicile of the semi-rural variety and immediately rescued four chooks from the battery farm down the road.
We've dubbed them Butter, Chow Mein, Kebab and Nuggets. Butter gave us our first egg a day later, but because she didn't know how
to roost she popped the egg out on to the floor, which resulted in a bit of a crack - so my son smartly made it into an omelette.
Now I've just got to get the other three in the laying way. Apart from looking a tad threadbare and ropey, the girls also appear a bit depressed - I wonder if a splash of wine in their feed might cheer them up?
I've heard of people giving their cows the occasional tipple to improve their meat and mood - does anyone know if it'll help chickens?
