In the unpredictable world of fashion, trends come and go - and sometimes, if we are lucky, they come again. Looking at the key trends of the season - from Paris to Milan; from London to New York - we felt we travelled back into fashion
history. Much to our delight, fashion has revived feminine dressing once again and we've completely fallen for the Mad Men-esque 50s A-line skirts at Giles and Louis Vuitton.
We're pleased to see designers turn back the clock and draw inspiration from the feminine 50s.
Catwalk models rocked hourglass silhouettes down the runway for Prada, Louis Vuitton and Nina Ricci. And although it's easy to see why some of us may have fallen head-over-heels in love with high fashion's body-conscious mini-dresses and leather pants, these figure-hugging numbers don't tend to flatter the female figure.
So it doesn't take much to understand why we loved the 50s trend. It made the models look womanly and voluptuous, and for the rest of us living in the real world, we'll finally be able to locate our waistlines again!
The new feminism of fashion - 50s-themed corsets, cable-knit cardigans, calf-grazing skirts and retro-look accessories - is just what we've been waiting for; fashion that truly embraces and enhances the female form.
The best thing about the new feminism of fashion has to be how easy this trend is to wear this season. Perfect for work - and it can be spiced up for eveningwear, too. It's all about creating a waistline in the right place.
The key to making either the full skirt or the pencil skirt work is by teaming it with a well-fitted top.
Cardigans and knitted sweaters create a preppy, schoolgirl look, or invoke your inner femme fatale by pairing with embellished tops with intricate detailing, in an array of textures and softly seductive lace.
Cutesy, retro accessories will complete your look.
