Despite the unruly wind and relentless rain we've all been subjected to lately, the Simply You team has decided winter isn't all doom and gloom. With less than a month to go until ski fields open, we think it's time to make a checklist of our essentials so that we're
warm and dry when we hit the snow.
Practical with panache
When it comes to skiing and snowboarding, safety and functionality naturally come before fashion.
However, keeping warm and protected from the elements doesn't have to mean completely sacrificing your own sense of style - Aspen doesn't hold its own fashion week for no good reason.
Basic yet beautiful merino pieces are absolute essentials and are thin enough to layer under jackets for extra warmth.
Ski jackets and pants needn't be big and bulky. Look for pants with a narrower leg and a slimmer, fitted jacket. And although crazy fluoro colours and prints may be a general everyday no-go for most of us, when you're out on the snow it's safer to be seen so have some fun and treat yourself to pieces in bold graphic prints and wild colours.
Protection on the piste
Once you've got all your wardrobe essentials sorted for keeping you warm, start thinking about those necessary accessories you need to make your ski trip enjoyable - and no, we don't mean designer handbags.
Journeying to the ski slopes without sunglasses or goggles is one of the biggest mistakes you can make.
Eyes are especially prone to sunburn when skiing therefore it's absolutely essential to shield them from the sun as well as possible.
Because snow reflects the sun's harmful UV rays, make sure your goggles or sunglasses offer 100 per cent UV protection - you will never regret spending money on investing in a quality pair.
Prepare to face facts
Just because you're going to have your face covered with sunglasses or goggles, it's not an excuse to neglect your beauty regime.
Though it may sound unusual to be worrying about your skin getting sunburnt during the middle of winter, we've all seen people who've forgotten to apply sunscreen on the slopes and have been left with rather unattractive, white goggle marks on their face. So never let the temperature fool you: always apply sunscreen. A sunscreen that has been formulated for wear during exercise will keep you well protected and won't rub off while you're busy on the ski fields.
A lip balm is another absolute essential as, no doubt, we've all experienced the nasty effects that wind can have on our lips.
Once your must-haves are sorted, sit back, relax and keep your fingers crossed for plenty of snow this season.
