No matter how many gorgeous garments you have stored away in your wardrobe, accessories have the power to make or break your look. From sky-high heels to statement jewellery, investing in the perfect accessories will guarantee you always look your best. However, there's a fine art involved in picking the pieces that will complete and polish your style.
Shaping up with accessories

When we think about body shape, we usually only go as far as thinking about our clothing. But body shape needs to be taken into consideration when mixing and matching accessories, too.
Play it right, treat your shape like a sculpture and you'll be able to emphasise your best assets and draw attention away from other areas you'd rather keep hidden. If you're blessed with a classic, feminine hourglass-shaped figure, belts should be your best friend.
Highlight your slim waist by cinching it with a statement belt. Just be careful not to bulk up your waist and keep the rest of your accessories fairly minimal - think a stunning pair of stilettos and some statement jewellery.
Tips for pear-shaped figures
For those with a pear-shaped figure (smaller on the top half and wider on the bottom), accessories can be used to give your shape a sense of proportion. You want to draw attention away from your lower body and have all eyes on your slim upper half.
Bold jewellery and immaculate hair and makeup will do the trick, and scarves in winter are an absolute must-have. If you're concerned about larger calves, avoid flat shoes and instead opt for a nice wedge heel, which can help slim your legs.

Tips for top-heavy figures

If you're on the other end of the spectrum and it's your top half that's heavier, you'll want to do the reverse and draw eyes towards your lower half.
Never overload yourself with layers of necklaces; a simple pair of elegant earrings should suffice.
Go to town with your slim legs by experimenting with hosiery in different patterns and colours, and never leave home without donning fabulous shoes.
A sense of proportion
Regardless of your body shape, it's also important to consider your actual height and size and select accessories to suit.
Gigantic sunglasses, handbags and necklaces will drown petite figures and you'll end up looking even smaller.
If you're blessed with womanly curves, small and delicate pieces will make you look bigger, so always opt for medium- to larger-sized accessories.
Follow these simple tips and all eyes will be on you - in just the places you want them to be.
