We've had a look at injecting a vibrant burst of colour into our winter wardrobes and have decided to extend the idea to our winter beauty regime, too. It's fair to admit that on a day-to-day basis most of us steer away from getting creative with our makeup and usually stick to our tried and true favourites.
At Simply You we're tired of playing it safe with eye shadows in charcoal greys and smoky browns, so we've decided to take note from international trends and start getting playful with colour.
Purple gaze
This winter, purple is taking the world of fashion and beauty by storm. From deep violet to soft, sugary hues of lilac, all the prominent beauty houses have done their own take on this hot colour.
Reinvent the smoky eye with deep, almost navy-tinged shades of purple and finish with lashings of mascara for a dramatic evening look.
Offset bold eyes with an innocent pout in soft neutral lipstick or gloss.
Experiment with softer shades for daywear. For those with green eyes, purple shades of eye shadow will really bring your eyes to life. Don't let your use of purple end here, either. For the ultimate in sophistication, complete your look with immaculately manicured nails in matching shades. When it comes to teaming purple makeup with your wardrobe, think soft, flowing feminine pieces in dusky neutral hues.
Electric blue
Purple isn't the only royal colour that's inspiring us to get imaginative with our make-up. Regal hues of navy and deep blue are going to create a bold statement this winter, too. If eye makeup in charcoal grey is your usual weapon of choice, try swapping those safe greys for bold blues. Stay clear of powdery baby blue shades that remind you of something your grandmother would have caked on, and choose deep tones of blue that will complement almost any wardrobe choice. When wearing blue eye makeup, keep the rest of your look minimal. Lips coated in just a delicate touch of shimmering gloss will sparkle and seduce.
Well red lips
If you're still not convinced enough to move out of your comfort zone and into the realm of colourful eye makeup, bright bursts of lip colour will have a powerful impact, too.
Season after season, all shades of red remain a favourite choice. From fire-engine red to deep wine tones, red lipstick injects an instant hit of glamour.
If you side with lipstick when it comes to the gloss versus lippie debate, bright pink and fuchsia will also look amazing when teamed with statement winter coats. Use colour to unleash your creative side; just remember the golden rule - more is less. Always team bold lips with subtle eye colours.
