Size matters, and with 600 wineries of its own, China could even overtake Australian wine production (and that's pretty big) within three years, says an industry report in the Daily Telegraph.
Intense growth in the number of Chinese vineyards is destined to help the country leap from 10th to sixth place in terms of international wine production by 2014 - representing a staggering 77 per cent rise in output.
Experts say that most Chinese wine - which is mainly red - will continue to be drunk within the country as increasing prosperity there raises demand for what is still seen as a luxury.
