You have to wait decades for some trends to come back in fashion. Then there are cargo pants - wasn't it just a few years ago we were wearing those pocketed pants?
This time round, the cargo comeback is part of a bigger trend towards military-inspired fashion for spring. Epaulettes can
be found on light jackets and shirts, on rolled-up cuffs of three-quarter pants and khaki is everywhere.
Cargos for 2010, however, are to be worn different to the sloppy styles of the 90s.
The masculine military look needs to be feminised for balance, so pretty them up with floaty silk tops and pretty pastel cardigans.
The look is casual but neat, and can even be taken into the evening - skinny cargos are popping up in stores around town.
Get into military style with trench-style coats and dresses and black lace-up ankle boots - you'll have no trouble finding pieces as plenty of our designers are getting in on the trend. Kate Sylvester's spring/summer collection, This Charming Man, features khaki strongly, Helen Cherry has presented the perfect trench dress for summer work wardrobes and Karen Walker's gold-button coats add a military touch to an otherwise nautical collection. Fashion stalwart Ashley Fogel has also revealed a collection with what has to be the stand-out piece: a navy blue military-inspired jacket with silver buttons.
For a cheaper option, try Jacqui E where "utility chic" is the theme of the latest delivery.
Whatever you do in your quest to master military, hold back when it comes to camouflage prints - cargo pants may be back but camo definitely isn't.
