Salon concert should be beauty

A concert tour with a difference winds up in Kerikeri tomorrow with a gig in a beauty salon.

Musician Chris Sanders says it is the world's first music tour through hair and beauty salons, with the proceeds going to women's cancer charity, Look Good Feel Better.

The last show of his six-date North Island tour is at Body Divine on Kerikeri Rd from 6pm.

Mr Sanders said it was close to selling out with more than 100 people booked so far.

The 35-year-old will play songs from his debut EP, Home Away From Home, and a new album due for release this year.

He has previously supported artists such as Tim Finn, Dave Dobbyn and Anika Moa.

The former salon owner said it made sense to combine his music with his connection to the beauty industry to support an organisation helping women enhance their appearance before and after cancer treatment.

"As a salon owner, I saw first-hand how a good doll-up can help the self-esteem and confidence of our clients who were battling cancer," he said.

Online sales through iTunes and CD sales at the gigs will also be donated. Each salon on the tour is also running a VIP night with fundraising activities, hair and beauty demonstrations, special offers and giveaways.
