There's an indie tinge to The Staves that challenges the prejudices that can arise from three sisters playing acoustic guitars and delivering three-part harmonies.
If I Was, the second album from these three British sisters, has Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) as a producer, which hints at their particular flavour offolk-rock. Damn It All is perhaps the most extreme example of a folk song with a twist, switching halfway through to a simple dirge.
There are more contemporary subtleties at play -- The Antlers spring to mind. But no indie cred required to enjoy these sisters, just an appreciation of talent and melody.
