The Dilemma
(M), 125 minutes, 2.5/5
With Vince Vaughan, pictured, and Kevin James in starring roles, I was expecting a comedy.
But The Dilemma is not your standard comedy - it drifts more toward a drama than anything.
While Vaughan and James can still bring their comedy talents to their roles, we are
exposed to a greater range of their abilities.
Vaughan (who plays Ronny Valentine) and James (who plays Nick Brannen) have been the best of mates since university days.
They work and socialise together and nothing is likely to come between them.
That is until Ronny accidentally sees Nick's wife Geneva (played by Winona Ryder) kissing a stranger.
When he discovers that Geneva is having a full-blown affair, he is torn.
His dilemma is whether he should tell his best mate or try to sort out the problem with Geneva.
He seeks advice from as many people as he can but he gets no closer to a solution.
And the more he meddles in Geneva's affair, the messier everything becomes and the more his life unravels.
Those around Ronny begin to worry that he has lapsed into his old gambling habits and that's taking its toll.
As Ronny wrestles with these issues, he and Nick face the biggest test of their business career - they must prove their revolutionary electric engine is a real goer.
The Dilemma gets off to a slowish start as the plot thickens and ends with a bang. In between it takes us along for an entertaining ride with a mix of comedy and dramatic moments.
