Tangled (in 3D)
(PG) 115 minutes, 4/5
Are kids' movies getting scarier or am I just getting wussier?
A couple of times this Disney princess fairytale had me considering covering the eyes of the tyke beside me.
He and his sister barely flinched though as the stars of this show, Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) and her eventual prince Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi), faced a watery death trapped in a cave with the water rising.
My heart was racing but the kids beside me were cool as cucumbers, quickly laughing as Rapunzel's magical glowing hair saved the day.
There was no time to consider protecting them from a rather "what the heck?" scene later on though, as our hero took a knife to the chest.
These kids obviously just know how these Disney movies work out - happily ever after.
To get there though, Rapunzel - who in sticking to the classic fairy tale has been trapped in a tower - must escape Mother Gothel who has been keeping her locked away for the healing powers of her long golden locks.
Rapunzel, having just turned 18, has the dream of finding the place where thousands of lanterns are released on her birthday every year.
It's not until the charming, but thieving, Flynn Rider climbs her tower looking for safety from those hot on his tail that Rapunzel finds her means of escaping. The two embark on a forbidden road trip. Along for the ride is the gorgeous chameleon Pascall whose facial expressions provide comic relief time after time.
A lesson in following your dreams plays out with Rapunzel being told by her prince that once she realises one dream she then has to make another.
But although it may seem overly girly, this princess movie is one the boys of the family will also enjoy - there are enough heroic but humorous fight scenes to keep them interested.
Mums of little brunettes beware - you may be wondering at one particular point if this movie is one that's going to have them wishing they were born blonde - but it all works out okay in the end.
