Megamind
(PG) 110 minutes 4/5
Supervillains don't often win you over. They aren't supposed to.
They're evil, after all.
But this little blue man from outer space is hard not to love.
Brought to life by Will Ferrell, the supersmart Megamind is a "would be if he could be, but he can't".
He wants to
rule the world and carry out his dastardly deeds on all humanity.
If only Metro Man (voiced by Brad Pitt) didn't keep getting in his way and sending him to prison.
Megamind is determined to find a way to rid himself of the do-gooder.
But what drives Megamind on is the battle with Metro Man so, when his nemesis is defeated, life is soon boring.
He even flirts with being human and finds comfort in spending time with TV reporter Roxanne Ritchie (Tina Fey).
Although Megamind enjoys all the power of a supreme ruler, he finds it hard to be mean and evil when there is no-one to stop him.
At his wits end, he decides to manufacture a Metro Man clone with whom he can resume hostilities.
Titan (Jonah Hill) may seem the perfect answer but he is far from it and Megamind faces the prospect that his world is going to crumble around him unless he can use his enormous intellect to solve this crisis, the greatest he has faced.
There is a realism and humanity about the movie Megamind that makes you forget you are watching an animated adventure.
And there are some wonderfully subtle moments of humour that make this a film that crosses the generations and appeals to a wide range of viewers.
