CAR CRASH TELLY: Dim duo Will Ferrell and co-host Christina Applegate in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Nine years ago the world became a richer place when we were introduced to Ron Burgundy.

Burgundy (Will Ferrell), the greatest anchorman to have ever lived, taught the world what is right and what they should be interested in hearing about.

He was an old-style newsman, with salon-quality hair, of course.

But Burgundy had a fall from grace over the past decade as the networks shunned him and the bottle grabbed him hard. At his lowest ebb, he was saved.

Now in 2013, the big man is back and better than ever.

Anchorman 2 - The Legend Continues is classic Burgundy as he reunites his team - weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), investigative reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports reader Champ Kind (David Koechner) - and takes the airwaves by storm.

Helping to launch a new 24-hour news channel, Burgundy's team soon move from their 2am slot to prime time based on a simple diet of car chases and cute animal stories.

His approach is simple but then his audience is simple as well.

He has always said exactly what he thinks so you can imagine that it takes him a little while to adapt to his new boss, a black woman called Linda (Meagan Good). While Burgundy is the central character, his team members get their moments to shine and Brick's romance with secretary Chani (Kristen Wiig) has classic moments.

Stars aplenty appear in cameos toward the end in a special, not-be-missed fight scene.

It is fair to say Burgundy can be an acquired taste. His brand of humour is hardly sophisticated.

His humour is basic and crass, but if that doesn't offend it is also very funny.
