Reviewing MX vs ATV Alive made me consider what goes into making a great game - graphics, playability, sounds and maybe that little extra something to push it over the top.
That's because the latest MX vs ATV offering is fairly middle of the road in all of the above.
Graphically, it'ssolid but won't leave you blown away by any measure; the bikes and racers are detailed but the tracks can be pixally in places.
The racing sound is adequate, but the light metal/rock on heavy repeat will leave your ears ringing.
A huge range of bikes, racers and tracks are available, but to unlock them you need to put in a mammoth amount of miles.
The best part is the racing - with dual controls that require you to control both the bike and the rider, giving a unique level of control that really puts the heat on your skills.
If you like racing games, motocross in particular; then this may just be your cup of tea.
But casual gamers may find the lack of variety and slow progression off-putting. Stars: 2/5
