I'm never sure how best to match shoes with an outfit. Should I go for the same colour or is that too much?

It's really down to personal preference, but here are some options.

*Shoe colour matches your outfit, as you suggest. How this looks depends on how strong the outfit and shoes are. You don't want them competing with one another or looking too try-hard. If you're wearing a different-coloured top and bottom, choose shoes to match either.
*Shoe colour matches a key accessory, a necklace or scarf. Don't go overboard trying to co-ordinate all accessories such as shoes, bag and jewellery or it may look overdone.
*Shoes are played down (neutral, minimal) and the outfit gets all the glory.
*Shoes are the ones to get all the attention and the outfit is more understated. This works really well if the shoes are striking and a feature in themselves.

Much depends on your budget and we tend to choose shoes whose colour goes with a lot of different things in our wardrobe. I have coloured shoes, including orange and teal, and you would be surprised at how many different outfits they work with.

Have a play and see what works for you.
