White Lion
(PG), Roadshow Entertainment
Here's a great movie for children with a love of animals.
And these are spectacular wild animals that make their home on the plains and foothills of Africa.
The footage is spectacular, featuring lions, hyenas, elephants, crocodiles, warthogs, giraffes, snakes and wildebeest as they fight to survive
in an unforgiving environment.
But this is the story of just one of those special creatures, a white lion.
According to the legend of the Shangaan tribe, white lions are the messengers of the gods, so when a teenage boy, Gisani, sees one in the remote valley occupied by his tribe, he takes it upon himself to safeguard the cub's future.
Legend has it that a white lion brings good luck and prosperity to a village, but its untimely death bodes poorly for the future.
The young lion, known as Letsatsi, is cast from his pride and forced to embark upon a perilous journey of survival.
Gisani, who recounts the story of the white lion years later, decides he can help it survive and grow into a proud adult beast.
He becomes witness to Letsatsi's adventures and near-misses in its desperate effort to learn how to hunt and survive without the help of the pride.
White Lion is an incredible story of overcoming adversity and the footage throughout is simply spectacular - as if you are right there alongside Letsatsi during his journey.
