The Special Relationship
(M), Roadshow Entertainment
In 1993 a youthful Bill Clinton brought the Democratic Party to power for the first time in many years in the United States.
In 1997 Tony Blair swept to power in Great Britain to end a sustained period of Conservative rule.
And so began a powerful and
unbreakable bond between two of the most powerful leaders of the free world.
The Special Relationship is a docudrama delving into the bond between these men.
From the moment a young Blair sought advice and guidance from the left-wing American President three years before taking power, the relationship was established.
Clinton embraced Blair and took him under his wing in the early days.
When Blair had become comfortable behind his desk, it was he who watched on as Clinton dealt with the serious allegations of sexual infidelity and lying over the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Both men were then drawn into the worldwide security issue posed by Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
Milosevic's men were committing atrocities in Kosovo and someone had to stop him.
While the will for peace from both men was there, the politics of the day made it difficult to find a way forward.
Relationships were tested across the spectrum.
The Special Relationship offers a fascinating insight into the world of high-level politics and explores how two men with similar leanings can control a chunk of the world agenda.
