Sex and the City 2
(R16), Roadshow Entertainment
I don't think it's compulsory to be a woman to watch this ... but I think it would certainly help.
We know the TV series Sex and the City was all about the high life and the accompanying high fashion and available men.
The subsequent
movies have kept very close to that theme and Sex and the City 2 has it in bucketloads.
But at 160 minutes long, you have to enjoy the girlie stuff and the glamorous gowns if you are going to last the distance.
I guess the underlying theme in this sequel is relationships and the girls understanding what makes their particular relationships with their men work.
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is suffering the second-year blues with husband Big (Chris Noth).
She feels the sparkle has gone and replaced by a touch of monotony.
Big doesn't see it quite the same way and is happy to live a simple life at times.
Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is coming to terms with motherhood and how it affects her life.
The arrival of a buxom nanny doesn't do much to help her confidence.
Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is struggling with relationships at work. Her boss simply won't accept her as an equal.
And Samantha (Kim Cattrall) won't accept growing old when there are still so many cute men about.
When Samantha gets the opportunity to take her friends on an expenses-paid business trip to the Gulf, they all jump at the opportunity to enjoy a little opulence.
With a little clear headspace away from their problems at home, the girls see and experience things that allow them to start putting things in perspective.
You have to wonder how they have any time to think or do anything when they change clothes so often.
But that is what Sex and the City is all about I guess.
