Joel (Jason Bateman) is a man who should have everything.
His company, which produces flavour extracts, is going along very nicely and is attracting the attention of a potential buyer. He lives in a lovely home and has a wife who loves him.
However, it is all becoming a
little humdrum. That is until serial fraudster/swindler Cindy (Mila Kunis) enters his life.
Cindy sees Joel's company as ripe for the picking when an employee suffers an industrial accident.
Dollar signs flash before her eyes and she isn't too bothered by who gets caught up in her little scam.
Joel is captivated by Cindy's beauty and the opportunity she present for some potential intimacy.
And although Joel loves his wife, he has become frustrated by her distance.
To appease his conscience and clear the way to Cindy, Joel decides to hire a gigolo to seduce his wife and so opens the door for him to have his own affair.
If only it was that simple.
Extract is the story of Joel's efforts to get his life and his marriage back on track after a potentially serious derailment.
