Doctor Who - The Complete Specials
(PG) Roadshow Entertainment
Over the years, Doctor Who has come in many shapes, sizes and ages.
Though most of the variations have had their own idiosyncrasies and attractions, David Tennant has brought a special magic to the role.
He managed to combine a wonderful mix of humour, drama and emotion as he zipped around the universe defeating evil beings with various faithful (and beautiful) assistants at his side.
He was the most human Doctor we have seen.
Having grown up with the sci-fi series, it has been fascinating watching the Doctors come and go while their evil opponents - such as the Cybermen and the Daleks - just keep coming back to create more havoc.
Doctor Who - The Complete Specials is a smorgasbord of adventure from the great man.
We are treated to five full-length episodes - The Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead, The Waters of Mars and The End of Time, parts one and two - including Tennant's fond farewell. In effect, this series of episodes is a tribute to Tennant and his journey as The Doctor.
The End of Time, in particular, is gripping viewing as the Doctor faces two missions - saving the universe from destruction and preparing for his own end.
He has been warned that regeneration is near but he is not ready to leave behind the man he is now. But he doesn't have time to dwell too much on this as he must defeat the reborn Master before his evil plans spiral out of control, bringing the Earth down with him.
Farewell David Tennant ... you have served the legacy of Doctor Who well.
