Brooklyn's Finest (R18), Roadshow Entertainment
Three cops, three approaches to policing, one precinct.
Brooklyn's Finest is set on the mean streets of New York, where for policemen survival is a badge of honour.
Eddie Dugan (Richard Gere), Clarence "Tango" Butler (Don Cheadle) and Detective Sal Procida (Ethan Hawke) work these streets and eachhas their own way of coping.
Dugan has lost his spark and is counting down the days to retirement. His policing skills are as sharp as ever but the fire in his belly has virtually been extinguished.
Butler puts his body on the line every moment of every day as an undercover agent working with a dangerous black gang peddling drugs.
He must choose his actions and his timing perfectly if he wants to see another day.
Procida is a drug cop who has no problem taking the law into his own hands. He is driven by the desire to get his family out of the rancid house they live in, but to do that he needs money any way he can get his hands on it. And if that means drug money, so be it.
Brooklyn's Finest takes us along for the ride as these men navigate their day.
What they don't know is that their lives are going to intersect in a deadly way at one of the area's most dangerous housing projects where their respective "missions" have taken them.
The story of these three men pulls no punches - it is dour, it is gritty, it is deadly. But most of all it leaves you with a very real impression that it is not too far from the truth.
