Dargaville Little Theatre is looking for actors, singers and musicians for a production of the musical Annie Get Your Gun.

Auditions are to be held at the theatre on June 23 and director Keith Allen encourages anyone interested to come along.

There are singing and non-singing parts for the eight main characters as well as a large ensemble cast. There are also parts for children.

The play is based on a book of the same name by Dorothy Fields and her brother Herbert, with music by Irving Berlin.

The original 1946 Broadway production was a hit, and the musical had long runs in New York and London, spawning revivals, a film version and television versions.

The story is based on the life of Annie Oakley (1860-1926), a sharpshooter who starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, and her romance with Frank Butler.

First staged by the Dargaville Little Theatre in 1973, this show will be the 1999 revival version.

The show will have a three-month rehearsal schedule and will go on stage in October.

Auditions for the principal roles will require the singing of a song of choice and a song from the show. Those auditioning for supporting roles will also be required to sing a song of their choice. People must bring a CD, sheet music or be prepared to sing unaccompanied.
