If you're eyeing up an Android-powered cellphone this Christmas you'll need to get your hands on some hot apps. Even though they're relatively new boys on the block there are plenty of quality options available.
Here are 10 of the best:
Google Goggles
This free app is almost cool enough by itself
to warrant buying a new phone. Simply take a picture of anything you'd like some more information on, and the app chews up to three visual cues and spits out a relevant slew of facts.

AroundMe

You'll never be lost again, well as long as you've got your phone handy. There's no need to fiddle as it continuously updates from your location It's like a personal GPS for your strolling.
Dictionary.com
You can always use a dictionary, but lugging around the proper version would be a bit of a hassle. Enter dictionary.com With 375,000 words and definitions and both phonetic and audio pronunciation, you'll never be stuck at a literary dead end again.
Twidroid
Available in both free and pro versions, this is a must for Twitter junkies. Stacks of options allow you to tweak all manner of tweets.
Compare Everywhere
Is that really the lowest price? Never fear, Compare Everywhere is here. Simply scan the barcode and a plethora of information is available. You'll never be stuck with a lemon again.
Got To Do
It won't make it any easier to do the chores you've been putting off, but this a cool way to get them all organised and on track. Sadly, it won't help you mow the lawn in any capacity.
Tricorder
If you're a Star Trek fan, or just enjoy pretending your backyard is an alien world, this is the app for you. This fun little number turns your phone into a virtual tricorder - the communication device made famous from the sci-fi series. It also gives you environmental information such as GPS, wireless data and sound measurements.
Shazam
Okay, this one is already available for iPhone, but it's a gem. If you're after the name of a music track, all you need to do is fire this app, let it listen to the tune for a few seconds - and all is revealed.
Beer Pong Classic
All the fun of the classic student game, but with the bonus of no hangover the next day. There are also in-game statistics and an online leader board. This game's easy to pick up - not so easy to put down.
Money Manager
A handy way to keep the finger on your financial pulse. Just input when money goes in or out and it does all the mental heavy lifting. You'll never lose track of your funds again.
