With the summer party season coming up, make the smoky eye one of your make-up staples. Provided you team dark eyes with light lips and don't go overboard with the foundation, smoky eyes are flattering for all ages. Kits are available that include the three shades of eyeshadow you need to perfect the look, making it easy to apply.
Start with a sheer foundation base, covering your eyelids as well as your face.
Using a light eyeshadow, preferably white, cream or pale grey, sweep colour all over your eyelid, up to your eyebrow.
Choose a darker colour, such as grey or brown, and cover your eyelid (up to the crease) thoroughly.
With a fine brush, apply a dark colour, such as black or very dark grey, along the lash line and up into the crease of your eye - forming a sort of inverted 7.
With a creamy eye pencil or liquid liner, rim your eyes as close to the lashes as possible. Blend the line if you are using a pencil.
Apply two or three coats of mascara.
Finish with concealer under your eyes to remove any eyeshadow dust that could give the appearance of under-eye circles.
My top picks for smoky eyes: Natio's "Smokey Eye" Mineral Eyeshadow Trio; Revlon Colorstay quad in "Sterling Rose"; L'Oreal Telescopic Liquid Eyeliner.
