There are so many options for foundation. Gone are the days when your only choice was between a gloopy, oily liquid, or a drying powder.
There are now mousses, liquids, mineral-based powders, long-wearing and age-defying foundations. How do you choose the right one?
* If you have oily skin, go for a
foundation that says it's oil-free or has a matte finish. If you have dry skin, look for types that claim to be hydrating or moisturising.
* Decide what kind of coverage you need. If you have good skin, you may need only a sheer base - even tinted moisturiser - whereas someone with skin problems may need thicker coverage. Mousses generally provide lighter coverage than liquid foundations.
* Try colours on your face, not the back of your hand. It's the only way to find out what they will actually look like. The right shade is one that looks like it has disappeared. Check it under natural light. Don't try to change your skin tone with foundation - that's what bronzer or blush is for.
* Wearing too much heavy foundation can be ageing, particularly during the day. Consider what you really need. Many people can get away with using foundation a bit like concealer - under eyes and over problem areas.
* If you are trying to hide wrinkles, go for powder foundations. Liquid can sink in and make creases more obvious. Use a primer under the powder to help it stay put.
My picks: Maybelline Superstay, L'Oreal Morphose Mousse, Maybelline Instant Age Eraser Treatment, Mac Mineralise Skin Finish.
