Before Chris Cornell had a brain explosion and formed what should have been the ultimate supergroup with members of Rage Against the Machine (which ended up the lame Audioslave) he led one of the best grunge-era rock outfits - the blood-pumpingly good Soundgarden.
They were brilliant throughout their five-studio album careerin the late 1980s and mid-90s, and despite the classic status of third album Badmotorfinger, they seemed to improve with age.
This live album includes a good mix of tracks recorded up and down the United States West Coast - along Interstate 5 - in 1996, the year their final studio album, Down on the Upside, was released. The songs from the album (Dusty, Burden In My Hand and especially Ty Cobb) are standouts, while the covers of Search and Destroy and Helter Skelter are worth a listen. As are the low-key Cornell solo version of Black Hole Sun and the electric live performance of Jesus Christ Pose.
