Serotonin - Mystery Jets
2.5/5
Mystery Jets mine a vein already richly exploited by Scots seven-piece Belle and Sebastian. But B&S appear to have a greater understanding of their talents, perhaps their shortcomings too, and therefore less of an identity crisis than Mystery Jets.
Because on one hand, the Mystery Jets leave a vapour trail of rock behind them, but on the other they reek of, well, for some reason the phrase "dad-pop" comes to mind.
It becomes a little more confusing when reflecting on the quirkiness of some of the Mystery Jets' earlier singles.
Does the world need another British, moderately indie but slightly middle-of-the-road band?
Will they change the world or make you write poetry about your loved one?
No. The Mystery Jets are a nice cup of English tea, that used to be flavoured with a surreptitious slug of whisky. Now, they're just nice, and not particularly memorable.
