Sugar-sweet soul from another singer who should be too young to sound this experienced, this heartbroken and learned in the ways of love and loss. But Duffy's not just about matters of the heart - there's plenty of fun on this album too. Opener My Boy is a stunning, upbeat 60s number, with a staccato whistling-type percussion and sultry vocals. Well, Well, Well, which also avoids the lamentation of the other tracks, is a punchy song full of attitude and another obvious single. Unfortunately for Duffy, this perfectly reasonable album will suffer in comparison with first album Rockferry, which was the UK's top-selling album of 2008, and with fellow crooner Adele's recently released 21, which has a bit more oomph.
Fun fact 1: Duffy's co-writer on this album is the dad of Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Junior. Not-so-fun fact 2: Hammond Senior's presence has been blamed for this album's mixed critical reception.
