Clapton - Eric Clapton
As a Clapton fan since John Mayall's Bluesbreaker days I feel well qualified to get the measure of a new release from the man formerly known as God. The good news is this is a classic Clapton set, the work of a man obviously comfortable in his
own voice, and of course there's never been a question mark over his guitar work.
There's plenty of variety with a diverse range of approaches. Naturally there are some stunning blues pieces, notable among them Little Walter Jacobs Can't Hold Out Much Longer. There's a touch of New Orleans and tasty trumpet from Wynton Marsalis on How Deep is the Ocean, while Allen Toussaint supplies deft piano work on When Somebody Thinks You're Wonderful.
Superb musicians surround Clapton, along with the London Session Orchestra. It's just another facet of an album that finds Eric Clapton on form.
