Two council workers based at Kaitaia's Te Ahu Centre have won national customer service awards.

Customer services manager Nina Gobie was named Local Government Customer Service Manager of the Year. Kaitaia library assistant Punawai Posinkovich was named Local Government Customer Service Representative of the Year.

The awards were announced at the Association of Local Government Information Management's annual conference in Hamilton.

The council's community and customer services manager, Jacine Warmington, said it was gratifying to pick up two of the six awards.

"Our team at Te Ahu was runner-up for the title of Local Government Customer Service Team of the Year Award last year, so we're pleased to see them distinguish themselves again."

Ms Warmington said Ms Gobie had worked hard to establish a cohesive customer service team at Te Ahu since the centre opened in 2012.
