NorthTec excited by potential of new campus in Auckland

NorthTec has its sights set on the international student market in Auckland.

A new campus for the tertiary education provider will be open in Queen St, Auckland, by the end of the year.

NorthTec Council chairman Vern Dark said it secured the location in June and expanding to Auckland had been part of the business plan since November 2012.

"This is an exciting step forward for NorthTec and it is in line with the Government's desire to meet the growth in the international education sector," said Mr Dark. "It is also part of our long-term strategy to become a significant provider of education and training for international students in Auckland and Whangarei."

In order to attract international students, NorthTec has secured a campus location in the heart of the Auckland CBD at 155 Queen St.

"We wanted to offer our future students the opportunity to study and experience the heart of Auckland city and at the same time it puts us in close proximity to the other significant providers of tertiary education," Mr Dark says.

The Northern Advocate understands the lack of accommodation in Whangarei prevented the plan to attract international students from being focused in Northland.

The campus in Auckland will be used as a stepping stone to Northland, Mr Dark said.

He said the international marketing team at NorthTec were working on plans to facilitate an international student plan for Whangarei.

NorthTec will initially offer courses in Business, Management, Arts and English, with further study options being rolled out from 2014.
