The Whangarei Economic Development Group (WEDG) applauds the wide range of Northland business and community organisations that are working hard in the background to ensure the vision for the iconic Hundertwasser Centre in fact becomes a reality.
Those that have come out in public support of this ground-breaking initiative include
the likes of the Northland Chamber of Commerce, the Northland Tourism Development Group, The Whangarei Arts Museum Trust, Whangarei District Council, Far North District Council, the Maori Advisory Group and Destination Northland.
Already $10 million of funding has been confirmed, and there is an emerging level of confidence that the remaining 25 per cent will be secured for the final sign-off to take place in May. Many Northlanders are working long and thankless hours in the background to complete detailed submissions to national funding organisations for the remaining sums needed.
WEDG regards this outstanding initiative as the number one priority for the future of the area. This will be the last authentic Hundertwasser Centre to be built anywhere on the planet.
Economic impact reports by professional consultants have confirmed the payback on the Hundertwasser Centre is short, the ongoing net economic benefits are substantial, and the cultural asset value is unquestionable.
