No-one expected the inaugural Northland Inc development agency award would go to a small town butchery, but the comments of chair Colin Mitten and the judges made it clear this was something different.

The judges said: "Central Butchery in Kawakawa stands out for its outstanding level of community involvement and a genuine connection with the town and its people. Owner/operators Chevy and Dan Taylor believe from the heart that you don't always have to run a business like a machine to get a great result.

"Everything they do is with the belief that good deeds multiply and that they can be a positive role model..."

Chevy Taylor spoke of their pride in where they came from, their staff and the people who supported them. She said "the main reason we do this is for our community in Kawakawa".
