October 21 2015 was the day Marty McFly discovered the future

We don't have flying cars or hoverboards yet but If you're a small business looking to take advantage of the current economic climate embracing technology is going to help you get sales and profits up faster.

Back to the Future day was last week - the day Marty McFly travelled to in the cult movie from the 1980s.

It is clear that businesses of 30 years ago might have a hard time recognising a lot of the processes of their modern counterparts. Surveys show more than half of businesses agree that using technology to streamline systems will assist to save time and money.

If you're looking at what to do with tech here are several tips to move you back to the future.

Upgrade your PCs. I'm surprised at how many people still have some dusty old PC. If it's more than two years old replace it. For less than $1000 you can get something that can run things much faster. You shouldn't have to turn on your PC and have time to make a coffee for it to work. Be sure to invest in a PC that you can add a second screen for multitasking.

Get to the cloud. I've had no issues with cloud software, I also like the trial options offered and the ability to turn off the subscription if I'm not using it.

Get an online presence. Google is your friend and potentially a referrer of clients, so is Facebook. An online presence can help you interact with your customers and build your business following. You may need to invest a bit more in marketing but you'll be happy from the extra attention, feedback and sales.

Payment systems are now mobile. You can take card payments through your mobile device using attachments from banks and pay services. If you can invoice and be paid on the spot, there's no down time chasing payments later.
