Diners found plenty to like during the three-course meal on Whangarei's Canopy Bridge in the city's first White Dinner event.

Alfresco dining took on a whole new meaning in Whangarei when 200 people sat down for a White Plate dinner on the Town Basin's Canopy Bridge.

Organiser Penny Keene said she wanted to put on a positive event that highlighted "the beautiful Canopy Bridge" and to provide a good event for people to enjoy.

Penny teamed up with Big Fish Creative and, on Saturday, the lucky 200 enjoyed a three-course meal and live music until 11pm on the bridge.

The event was supported by Whangarei District Council and several city businesses, with the entrees provided by Bank St Social Club, mains by Killer Prawn and deserts from A'Deco, with all matched to appropriate wines,

"We wanted to put on something really good for the community and it was a wonderful event. The food was amazing and great entertainment and it was such a good evening.

"There was so much going on in town last weekend, with the sculpture symposium and many other things, and this really added to the excitement."

Penny and Big Fish would like to make the event an annual occasion.
