Four childcare centres, kohanga or kindergartens in the Whangarei district are to receive playhouses built by apprentices who competed in the Certified Builders Carpentry Apprentice Challenge.

Kamo Childcare Centre already has its playhouse on site, while NorthTec Raumanga Kohanga, Tutukaka Coast Playcentre and Manaia View Kindergarten are still to uplift theirs.

Lachlan McLeod, 19, who is 16 months into his apprenticeship for MD Construction, was judged Northland's top carpentry apprentice.
