A Hawke's Bay property developer convicted of illegally burning the remnants of three baches he had ordered be demolished has been fined more than $11,000.
David Leslie Colville pleaded guilty in the Napier District Court today to one charge of discharging contaminants, namely smoke, in a rubbish fire.
The charge relates to two separate fires at Tangoio last year after Colville was involved in the demolition of three beach houses on Beach Road at Tangoio as part of his development company.
The piles of debris from the demolition contained illegal contaminants including asbestos, treated timber, plastic, metal, chipboard and painted timber.
No resource consent was held for the fires.
