For 60 young Hawke's Bay and Gisborne military cadets getting to the 150th anniversary national camp being staged at Waiouru demanded a very special means of transport out of Napier.
It was a very large bus - with wings.
The air force put on a C130 Hercules to airlift the cadets, in true military style, to the Ohakea Air Base where they were taken by bus to Waiouru. The big four-engined transport aircraft touched down, for a brief and rare visit, just after 10.30am and took off about two hours later - its excited young cargo all safely aboard.

Hundreds of supporters from around Tamatea Central Hawke’s Bay turned out on Saturday to support Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti 2024, as thousands headed towards Parliament to express their opposition to Act’s Treaty Principles Bill.
A fine and sunny day drew a large crowd to the CHB A&P Show last weekend, to take in the trade and retail stands, entertainment, inaugural Trash to Fashion competition, equestrian and rural events.
The CHB Mail was there to take in the atmosphere...and take photos.
Pahīatua welcomed the Polish children and their families back to the town, 80 years after they first came to stay at the camp, just 2km from the township.
There were stalls, vintage car displays and good old-fashioned games on the Museum Reserve at last weekend's Ongaonga Bazaar - part of Central Hawke's Bay's Spring Fling events.
Free access to the museum and Coles Factory was a big drawcard on the day, which included a pop-up art gallery, a British and European car display, live music and a funky train-ride for this children.
All profits from the day will go towards the ongoing maintenance of the Ongaonga Museum and historic Coles Factory.
The CHB Mail was there to capture the action.
