Celebration 50 years in the making

Cook Islands ex-pats celebrated half a century of independence with a three-day festival in Flaxmere, Hastings, starting on Friday. The Cook Islands Community Centre in Flaxmere came alive in a spectacular display of colour, sound, culture and food. Hawke’s Bay Cook Islands Society president Derek Te Ariki presided over the proceedings. Chief photographer Warren Buckland captured the colour.
