With one of the Bay's other top players in the under-16 age group, Hawke's Bay Lawn's Daniel Rowe, unavailable as he recovers from a knee injury it may be slightly easier for Fall to capture the silverware. The Hawke's Bay under-16 and under-14 rep since arriving in the Bay will play with Hawke's Bay Lawn's Luke Winter in the doubles.
They are expected to be ranked among the top two seeded combos and Fall was happy with how the pair combined when playing together for Hawke's Bay rep teams.
Fall is coached by Greendale's professional coach and Hawke's Bay's No 1 man Luke Donovan, who is a former Caro Bowl interclub player for the Cockle Bay club.
"It makes it easier that Luke is left handed too. I can spend up to six hours each week training with Luke and I also have my off court strength and conditioning work, which I do by myself. The long-term goal is to score an American College tennis scholarship by the time my Year 13 studies end in 2019," Fall explained.
A big fan of Swiss star Roger Federer and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, Fall was quick to reply when quizzed about his strengths.
"My forehand and my ability to cover the court."
After this week's open, his focus will turn to the Taranaki Open which will be played on grass courts in Hawera later this month and next month's national age group champs in Auckland, where he will aim for a top 10 finish. He has yet to finalise a doubles partner for the nationals.
An under-23 age group has been introduced to the open this season. Davies said this is aimed at attracting players who have returned home for the summer from university.
Matches in this age group will be played at the Greendale club in the evenings tomorrow and Friday to allow players to fit their tennis around work commitments.
Davies expects more than 100 players to strut their stuff in this week's open. Davies has tipped Hawke's Bay Lawn 15-year-old Sophia Nash to be among the Bay's best performing females.
Nash performed well for the Hawke's Bay senior team in their recent Christie Cup challenge against Manawatu. Like the under-23 events, the under-14 events will be played at the Greendale club tomorrow and Friday.
All under-16 events will be played at the Hawke's Bay Lawn club on Saturday and Sunday and all under-10 and under-12 events will be played at the Greendale club on Saturday and Sunday.
"Having this level of competition is a great opportunity for our top players to show off their talents locally and for those hoping to make this level to test their skills," Davies said.
He pointed out Tennis Eastern has been working on a more holistic approach to player development with a number of the Bay's top juniors involved in strength and conditioning programmes which also cover nutrition and sports psychology.
"Already we are seeing improvement with more players performing well at national events," he added.
Two of the most famous products of previous Hawke's Bay Junior Opens, Hawke's Bay Lawn clubmates and brothers Rob and Finn Reynolds, were beaten finalists in the doubles and quarterfinalists in the singles during the New Zealand senior championships, which ended in Auckland at the weekend.
