Assault accused in court
Two teenagers appeared in Youth Court, Hastings, yesterday facing charges of wounding with intent stemming from an attack in the early hours of Sunday morning. A 15-year-old was remanded into the custody of Child, Youth and Family and a 16-year-old was granted bail on strict conditions. They are due to reappear on August 13.
The attack occurred at the Pak'n Save petrol forecourt about 2am and left a 19-year-old man unconscious. Yesterday he was in a serious condition in intensive care at Hawke's Bay Hospital.
Police are asking for anyone who saw anything to contact the Hastings Police on 8730502.
School talent at concert
A musical landscape covering everything from ukeleles to chamber music will be rolled out in a concert at Napier Girls' High School tomorrow night. The school will be showcasing its many performing arts groups during the concert which is being staged from 7pm in the main hall, with tickets for $5, and students free.
Sally Rutgers from the music department said the evening would feature items of music and drama from the Barbershop Chorus and Barbershop Quartet, Napier Girls' High Singers Choir, Orchestra, Pacificato, Ukulele Orchestra, Guitar Group, Concert Band, a jazz combo, rock groups, some of the chamber music groups and senior drama groups. "All these students have put in hours of rehearsals and are looking forward to having an opportunity to perform."
