Clarence St Theatre's Performing Arts EXPO on Saturday February 9 will be a first for the Waikato.

The event aims to give the community a one-stop look at the local performing arts scene and see what is available for their families, themselves or a group to participate in during the year.

The day will consist of stand holders, theatre tours and a showcase of some of the performing arts groups in attendance.

"You will be able to talk directly with many of the performing arts schools, tutors and performing arts organisations from the Waikato and find something that best fits your needs," Clarence St Theatre general manager Jason Wade.

The EXPO will have dance, theatre, music and Pacific arts available for people to get involved in.

"I went looking for contacts for various performing arts organisations in Hamilton City and found that there was not a centralised location where Hamilton or Waikato residents could go to find performing art opportunities," Jason says.

"Out of this came a desire to create an event that the community could attend once a year and be given options all in the one place and find something that suited them.

"In addition to the public getting to attend I believe it will be an excellent opportunity for those presenting their art practice to organically connect with the each other," he says

"Often in the city, arts organisations silo themselves and while their members cross-pollinate, the governance bodies may not communicate as often as perhaps would beneficial.

"The performing arts EXPO aims to allow casual conversation between organisations during the day with the intent of strengthening relationships and growing the resilience of the performing arts in the Waikato."

Performing Arts EXPO
Saturday February 9 at Clarence St Theatre, Hamilton
Doors open 10am. Theatre tours will start at 11am with the last tour at 12:30pm.
The showcase will be held at 2pm for approximately an hour and the doors will close at 4pm.
This is a free community event open to all.
