It was a close first half. All players worked hard to collect passes throughout the court and their opponents pressured relentlessly.
Both sets of goal circle defenders — Keasi Fonohema and Bronya McMenamin for YMP, and Alex Sinclair and Arna Majstrovic for HSOG — worked together well.
They stopped the quick ball between shooters and created intercept opportunities for each other. The first half went goal for goal but YMP started the third quarter in determined fashion. Within three minutes they had outscored HSOG by six goals to one.
YMP shooters Paku-Jane Skudder and Jayda Banks were more assertive in moving around the goal circle.
They offered better positioning for their feeders' passes and then added the goals.
By halfway through the third quarter, YMP were eight goals up and they continued extending their margin in the last quarter.
All their players lifted their game further and pressured High School Old Girls into errors.
The win consolidated YMP's place at the top of the points table. They are now four points ahead of Claydens Waikohu (1) again.
There was plenty of quality action across the road at Victoria Domain too.
The games will be previewed in The Gisborne Herald tomorrow.
