THE unbeaten YMP A men’s hockey side should have too much for Gisborne Boys’ High School, and Lytton Old Boys A should outgun the Masters when the senior club hockey competiton resumes tonight.

LOB Masters face up to their higher-ranked club mates at 6pm.

“It should be fairly one-sided in favour of the A team, and Masters keeper Mark Tombleson should have a busy night,” hockey commentator and Masters midfielder Tony Scragg said.

YMP A take the LJ Hooker turf against Boys’ High at 7.30pm.

“Boys’ High have been building their team structure nicely but tonight will be a big test for them.

“YMP are coming off that draw with THC two weeks ago. They are the in-form men’s side and I would expect to see them win well tonight.”

The Friday night games could produce a classic when GMC Green play the unbeaten YMP A women’s team at 6pm.

“The Green Machine are probably the only team capable of beating the all-conquering YMP women,” Scragg said.

“YMP took their foot off the gas against Girls’ High two weeks ago and they cannot afford to do that tonight.

“This top-of-the-table clash is one we have all been waiting for.”

At 7.30pm, GMC Kowhai play YMP B.

“Kowhai will want to do better than the last time out,” Scragg said.

“Although it was a winning performance for them against Emerre and Hathaway GMC Gold two weeks ago, they made hard work of it.

“Kowhai are a better team than that and I believe they will show it tomorrow night.”

In the first of the three Saturday games, THC come up against YMP B in the men’s competition at 1pm.

“I’d pick THC to win that one and win it well . . . by a sizeable score probably,” Scragg said.

He predicts the game between Paikea and Te Aowera at 2.45pm should go Paikea’s way by several goals.

“TA are struggling and Paikea will capitalise,” Scragg said.

“They are on the rise.”

Gisborne Girls’ High School and Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa complete the round at 4.30pm.

“It is a must-win game for the Ngatapa girls if they want to stay in the top five.

“For Girls’ High the match carries similar significance and it should be a good game to finish the eighth round.”
