Gisborne United and Campion College left everything on the field in a 2-2 draw in Women's Eastern League football on Sunday.

The third game this year between Campion, the second-placed team, and United, the third, was hotly contested at Harry Barker Reserve.

Campion applied pressure from the start with constant attacks on the United defensive line.

Stella Perano, Paare Ahuriri-Leach, Lydia Wood and Courtney Duncan worked hard to keep them at bay.

But half an hour into the game, United's Chelsea Simpson headed home a corner to give her side the lead against the run of play.

Campion levelled the score with a perfectly struck shot from Tayla Broughton.

Both teams continued to attack at every opportunity in the second half, and action was end to end.

Twelve minutes from time, United striker Simpson broke through from the left and outpaced the Campion defence to slot the ball home inside the far post.

Campion sparked back to life and made some great attacking moves through Lucy Allan, Torepe Taumaunu and Sofia Zame. They linked well and forced some good saves from United keeper Mel Knight.

A free-kick awarded just outside the penalty area was well struck by Campion's Dara Mulrooney but equally well saved by a full-length dive.

With time running out, Campion's efficient passing put Zame in a position to strike, and she scored to earn her team the 2-2 draw.

Campion were well led by skipper Lucy Allan.

For United, Kayley Knight and skipper Sarah Graham put in good shifts.

Gisborne Laundry Services Wainui Riverina hosted Bohemians at Wainui, and beat them 6-0.

Riverina opened the scoring through Larisa Allan in the fifth minute. Allan's second goal was a header from an in-swinging corner from player-coach Lizzie Hall.

Hall gave Allan the player-of-the match award, saying she ran hard all game.

“She got on the end of those through balls and put them in the net,” Hall said.

Hall and Katerina Ngarimu also scored to give Riverina a 4-0 halftime lead.

Teah Kahaki had a strong game in defence for Bohemians, stopping the through ball and creating some good attacking plays for her team.

The safe hands of Bohemians keeper Morgan Andrews foiled many attacks from the Wainui Riverina strikers.

In one passage of play, Hall crossed the ball into the penalty area for Allan, coming in from the left. She volleyed the ball into the top right-hand corner, Andrews made an outstanding diving save to keep it out of the net.

Allan scored two more goals. For one, a through ball from Hall put her into the penalty area, where she slotted the ball past the keeper into the bottom left-hand corner.

Tatapouri Marist Thistle spent most of the first half of their game against Gisborne Girls' High School on defence.

But when halftime came at Childers Road Reserve, they were only one goal down and still in the game.

Girls' High had scored after a good phase of play that led to Charley Lepper finding space in the Thistle Marist defence to slot the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Despite further pressure, Girls' High could not score again in the first half.

Thistle Marist's Kirsty Moiser did a great job clearing danger in the backline.

After a halftime pep talk, Marist got themselves into the game by driving play forward and putting Girls' High on the back foot.

Sabrina Street worked hard up front for Thistle Marist, delivering good ball and winning possession by putting pressure on the ball carrier.

Marist had chances and were unlucky not to score. Bridget Bethel showed nice skills in midfield and worked hard trying to convert those opportunities.

Danni Hunter was Marist's player of the day, giving 100 percent, running all day and winning possession with her hustle and commitment.

Good work from Girls' High School's Dara Dehn in midfield led to sustained pressure that GGHS managed to turn into a second goal late in the game.

GGHS coach Lee Smith said it was an entertaining game played in excellent spirit.
